Quite simply, it’s a crucial component for ensuring that elastomeric and hard char firestop material will properly close openings left by burned non-metallic pipes and other penetrations. In fact, the use of such a collar is required for firestopping plastic pipes larger than 4 (101.6 mm) in diameter.
